What Is the Pelvic Floor, After All?

The pelvic floor is an active and dynamic structure composed of muscles, fascia, ligaments, nerves, and blood vessels. It forms the base of our abdomen and is responsible for much more than we often imagine.
It supports the pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, vagina, and intestines), controls urinary and fecal continence, plays a role in sexual function and posture, and is deeply connected to our stability and overall sense of well-being.

When the pelvic floor does not function properly, symptoms may appear such as urine leakage when laughing, coughing, or sneezing, urinary urgency, pelvic pain, discomfort during sexual intercourse, a feeling of vaginal heaviness, or even the appearance of a “bulge” at the vaginal opening (prolapse).
These are signals the body gives — but they are often ignored, normalized, or hidden.
