GIOCUP® team looking at menstrual cups on the table
HOW WE MAKE IT

From raw material to dignity: every step counts

Trust is not asked for, it is shown. This is the journey of every GIOCUP® cup, from our factory in Batalha to you.

The first menstrual cup designed and made in Portugal

The GIOCUP® menstrual cup is the first menstrual cup designed and made in Portugal, in Batalha, from medical-grade silicone, free from BPA and latex. It is made by liquid injection moulding of medical-grade silicone in an ISO Class 7 cleanroom (ISO 14644-1), validated by an accredited laboratory, and every cup is inspected before it is packed. It comes in three sizes, Size 0 (Ø 33 mm, 10 ml), Size 1 (Ø 43 mm, 20 ml) and Size 2 (Ø 47 mm, 30 ml), in four colours: Rose, Pearl, Amber and Agate.

From start to finish

The GIOCUP® cup is made from medical-grade silicone: a flexible, strong material, free from BPA and latex. We chose it because it is stable: it doesn't absorb, it can be washed and boiled, and it keeps its shape and flexibility cycle after cycle. Under normal conditions and with proper care, it lasts up to 10 years.

Before designing our cups, we surveyed around 200 cups on sale on the market: diameters, heights, capacities, stems, rims. This analysis led to three decisions:

  • Size 0, with a 33 mm diameter, smaller than the smallest cup catalogued at the time, for those just starting out;
  • the smooth surface and flexible body, which move with you;
  • the raised detail that guides insertion and helps release the suction when it's time to remove it.

Moulding takes place in an ISO Class 7 cleanroom (ISO 14644-1), validated by an accredited laboratory, with filtered air, dedicated cleanroom garments and controlled access, so that nothing enters the mould except liquid medical-grade silicone. The factory operates under an ISO 13485:2016 certified management system, the same discipline required of manufacturers in the healthcare sector, and that is why we produce here and not abroad.

Every cup is inspected one by one before it is packed: finish, shape, flexibility and integrity. A cup with a mark, a burr or an uneven wall does not pass. Yes, it takes time. But that's how every cup that leaves here is the cup we designed, without exception.

The cup arrives in a case, so you can keep it between cycles or take it with you, and in packaging designed to have a second life once opened. Inside you'll find the user manual and a QR code that opens the latest version.

We could have it made abroad, for less. We chose to make it ourselves, knowing where every cup comes from, who made it and under what conditions. It is a choice of responsibility, not convenience: the same one that led us to donate cups before we sold the first. Menstrual dignity starts with a cup you can trust.
