The three steps with the GIOCUP® menstrual cup: fold, insert and empty

How it works

It collects instead of absorbing

It's a soft, medical-grade silicone cup that you fold, insert and let open inside. Instead of absorbing, it collects, so it doesn't dry you out or leave that damp feeling.

You empty it, wash it and use it again. At the end of your cycle, you boil it for a few minutes and it's ready for the next one.

How to use it

How to use it, step by step

  1. Step 1: the clean GIOCUP® menstrual cup, ready to use

    First

    Preparation

Wash your hands well and boil the cup for 4 to 5 minutes at the start and end of your cycle. After each use, just wash it with soap and water.

  2. Step 2: inserting the GIOCUP® menstrual cup

    Then

    Insertion

Find the right orientation, fold the cup (U, punch-down or 7 fold) and insert it in a comfortable position. Let it open naturally to create a seal. You can wear it for up to 12 hours.

  3. Step 3: emptying the GIOCUP® menstrual cup

    Next

    Removal

Relax, gently squeeze the base to release the seal and remove it carefully.

  4. Step 4: washing the GIOCUP® menstrual cup with water

    Again

    Reuse

Empty it, wash it and it's ready to use again.

  5. Step 5: boiling the GIOCUP® menstrual cup for 4 to 5 minutes

    At the end

    Boil between cycles

At the end of your cycle, place the cup in boiling water for 4 to 5 minutes.

Each colour in the Precious Women collection (Pearl, Amber, Agate and Rose) represents a different story and meaning. Choose the one that suits you best from our cup selection.

The most common are the C fold (or "U"), the 7 fold (punch-down) and the spiral fold, each one reduces the diameter in a different way. It's worth trying more than one until you find the one that opens most easily and comfortably for your body.

To insert: fold the cup, insert it angled towards your back and let it open inside the vaginal canal. To remove: wash your hands, gently squeeze the base to break the seal and pull slowly, keeping it upright.

Run a finger around the base, it should feel round with no folds. You can also rotate it slightly; if it turns easily without any odd resistance, it's usually a sign that it has opened properly.

The stem can be carefully trimmed with clean scissors to whatever length is most comfortable, without cutting the base of the cup.

If there's no sink inside the cubicle, one option is to bring a bottle of water to give it a quick rinse before reinserting it, or wipe it with toilet paper/a wipe and wash it thoroughly as soon as you can.

Once it's washed and completely dry, keep it in the case provided, in a clean, dry place.

After about 10 years of normal use, or sooner if you notice changes in texture (cracks, stiffness, persistent stains) or an odour that doesn't go away after boiling.
